Together We Rescue

307 Draft Horse Rescue saves draft horses that hail from various situations. Whether it is through owner surrender or through police rescue, we welcome draft horses who still have the will to live on and give them new purpose. When you support our mission, you support new life. Read our program details below.

Program Details

Our draft rescues are treated with the highest level of care and patience to help them adjust to a new life and prepare for a new purpose. Read about our rescue process/program below.

QUARANTINE

All horses that are rescued enter a 21 day quarantine period to go through an in-depth health analysis before being fully integrated with the herd.

VET CHECKUP

In the beginning of the 21 day quarantine, the horse will have a full exam administered by our veterinarian who details all issues that the horse needs support in.

FARRIER VISIT

We bring in our local farrier to do a complete analysis on all rescued horses to understand their foot/hoof needs and address any issues immediately.

EXERCISE

Our new rescue draft horses go through an exercise program that serves to learn of any movement issues while also rebuilding strength and confidence.

CHIROPRACTOR

We bring in a horse chiropractor to conduct a full chiropractic assessment of the rescued horse and administer needed adjustments.

MASSAGE

We welcome our equine massage therapist to conduct a massage session for our newly rescued draft horse to help relieve tension, stress, and prepare for next steps.

DENTAL CHECK

All new rescue horses go through a full dental checkup to ensure that their teach and mouth are healthy and any attention needed is supplied.

INTEGRATION

During quarantine, new draft horse rescues are kept close to the herd but aren't able to make direct contact. After quarantine, new rescues are fully integrated with the herd.

NUTRITION

All feed and nutrition for rescues are customized based on the horse's needs to ensure that their healing process is as efficient as possible.

Gabe

Is a Shire foal that lost his mum at only 2 months old. Shire Valley had a nurse mum for him, that took him on immediately. Gabe will stay in our rescue program but will be up for adoption when we feel he is ready.

Fallon

Fallon was put into the rescue program due to retirement age.  Fallon is 20 years old and will live out her days at the rescue.  She was an excellent brood mare for many years and will now be used for light and easy programs.  She is an absolute love, and she is now ready for a new chapter where she can still feel useful, but extremely pampered.  She's earned it! Donations for Fallon are for her daily care.

Misty

Misty was brought to the rescue as an owner surrender.

When her new owners found out she had pink /light colored pigmentation, and all of the issues that could cause her and them, both financially and continued maintenance of protecting her from any type of sunburn.  She must be watched closely for possible melanoma  to common horses with pink / light colored pigmentation.

Donations for Misty will go for her care while at the rescue and trying to find her the perfect home that can care for her special needs.

Luna

Luna was born at Shire Valley and was anticipated to be one of the top selling fillies.  However at just 4 months old, it was discovered that Luna had a condition called OCD.  Very common in drafts, but we had never seen it.  Luna will require surgery at approx. a year old to remove bone chips from her back hocks.  Her prognosis is very good to go on and lead a normal life after that, riding, driving etc.  However, she should not be used as a broodmare nor put into any type of competition riding.  Luna will stay at the rescue until the perfect home is found for her. Donations for Luna will go to her daily cost and upcoming surgery.
